Starting an Audit

It's time to start your SOC 2 audit to help you organize the compliance process. Starting the audit helps you kick off the first few steps of your SOC 2 journey in ByteChek based on the type of SOC 2 assessment you are undergoing.

In this article you'll learn the basics of starting the audit and how to use this feature to manage your SOC 2 program.

Things to know

Here are some key things you should know about starting the audit:

  • The Type of SOC 2 report you are earning will determine next steps in ByteChek. If you are signed up to do a SOC 2 Type 1 and SOC 2 Type 2 with ByteChek, start with Type 1.

  • The as-of date is the planned date of your report, typically this is the last day of the month (i.e. September 30th)

  • The report signer is typically someone in a leadership position that takes accountability for what is in the report. We see individuals in the following roles that typically sign the report: CEO, CTO, COO, CISO, CFO, or the senior compliance officer

Start the Audit

  1. On your dashboard, click the "Start Audit" button

  2. Select which audit you would like to stat in the dropdown, either SOC 2 Type 1 or SOC 2 Type 2

  3. If you chose SOC 2 Type 1, enter the as-of date for your report, the report signers name and email address and select the Trust Services Categories (TSCs) you are including in your report. Note: If you aren't sure on your TSCs, reference your SoW.

  4. If you chose SOC 2 Type 2, enter the review period for your Type 2 report, the report signers name and email address and select the TSCs included in your report.

  5. Click start audit

  6. Boom, you're all set. ByteChek will guide you step by step through the next steps on your SOC 2 journey.
